Pondicherry Dental College was established in the year 1990 in a building with only 2 rooms. It was subsequently renamed as Mahatma Gandhi Dental College & Hospital in the year 1995.Mahatma Gandhi Dental College and Hospital was upgraded to present status as Mahatma Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Dental Sciences on 08.09.2005 vide G.O.Ms.No. of the Govt. of Pondicherry. It is the only Dental Institute in the country in the Govt.

The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), established by an Act of Parliament in 1985, has continuously striven to build an inclusive knowledge society through inclusive education. It has tried to increase the Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) by offering high-quality teaching through the Open and Distance Learning (ODL) mode.
The University began by offering two academic programmes in 1987, i.e., Diploma in Management and Diploma in Distance Education, with a strength of 4,528 students.
The entrance examination for degree level engineering institutions and other professional colleges has been assigned to Gautam Buddh Technical University, Lucknow by Govt. of Uttar Pradesh. Further, the Govt. of Uttar Pradesh, Technical Education Department, has consented for the constitution of Central Admission Board (CAB) under the Chairmanship of the Vice Chancellor, Gautam Buddh Technical University, Lucknow to supervise and control the State Entrance Examination herein after referred as UPSEE-2013 being conducted by Gautam Buddh Technical University, Lucknow.
